"We live in Ocean Park, Washington on the longest contiguous beach in the continental US. Our Vestaboard is centrally located in our kitchen, making it a true focal point of our house and an integral part of beach life. Our home mainly has First Nation carvings and water color painting on the walls with the house being all about the outside. It is incredible how the Vestaboard adds to our art collection. My wife is usually very skeptical about technology in general but she absolutely LOVES the Vestaboard.
The ocean here can be really dangerous and it's important to know what's going on before venturing out. Our Vestaboard is programmed to display the tides, current weather and the forecast every hour so that it's always available to glance at. The tide forecast is definitely necessary to see the best times to walk our dogs at low tides and also lets us know if there is any risk of the wind blowing us off the beach! I use my own Python scripts running on a Raspberry Pi locally, as well as Vestaboard+ for the content. I love the ultimate flexibility that gives us.
We also use our board to send messages to each other from our other home and to welcome our visitors to the beach. Our guests are immediately drawn to it as it announces itself, when it comes to life, changing content. That is usually the first time it gets recognized. The content the board displays is a piece of the experience and is art on its own.
I love that Vestaboard is a beautiful piece of art in our house, has great practical use, and whenever it changes content, listening to it and watching it in anticipation has made it a great, central piece! Our home has a lot of windows and the Vestaboard is mounted in between them when looking out to the beach, in a way it has become a new window to our world."
